If used properly, the Henson razor is very safe to use.

For the best Henson experience, we recommend the following:

  1. Make sure you screw the handle into the top cap fully. There is a Tungsten bushing in the top cap so you'll know when you can't screw any further. The razor is built to specific tolerances and so not firmly screwing in the top cap could lead to an irregular shave experience.
  2. Apply only mild pressure to your skin. The Henson is designed to present the blade near the bottom of your hair follicle, right where it meets your skin. You may be surprised by how little pressure you need to apply to get a good shave.
  3. We have lots of customers that have actually used the Henson without any shaving creams or gels. We definitely recommend at least wetting your face. If you would like to use a cream, gel or oil, please feel free. The head of the razor has exit channels that do a good job at easily removing hair and shaving cream when rinsed with water.
  4. Rinse, don’t bang. As a result of the exit channels either running the razor under the tap or swishing in water is the best way to remove hair/creams. We do not recommend banging the razor against your sink or tub.

We suggest some nice music and a closed door. Take a breath and enjoy the process of a relaxing and enjoyable shave.
A 5 pack of Astra Superior Platinum double-edged razor blades are included with every purchase. This will provide the average shaver with 1 month of precision shaves. You also have the option of purchasing a pack of 100 blades which will last approx. 2 years for the average shaver.

After that, razor blades can be purchased in many locations such as the retailers found in our International Distributors section or on Amazon.
Most of our competitors have their razors manufactured overseas (even if they advertise that they are "Designed in Canada"). Our Razors are fully designed, manufactured and assembled in Canada.
First, its precision. Most of our competitors use manufacturing processes that build in allowances. Allowance in the blade fit, allowance in the head width, allowance in the blade gap. They build in these allowances in case something isn't perfect in their metal casting or their coating. Henson Razors are machined (not cast) and are anodized (not painted or chromed) so our tolerances are down to the thousandth of an inch. This means a straight blade every time, and the thinnest blade exposure on the market. Thinner blade exposure means less vibration in the blade (chatter). Less chatter means less irritation and a better shave every time.

The only difference between the Henson AL13 and the Henson AL13 - Medium is the blade gap and blade exposure. These measurements control the "aggressiveness" of the shave. For finer hair and shaving areas other than the face, a milder razor is generally desired. For coarser hair, the aggression of our Medium razor may be more suitable.

Technical Details
AL13 - .68 mm Blade Gap and .0013" Blade Exposure
AL13 - Medium - .85 mm Blade Gap and .0023” Blade Exposure

The .85 mm and .68 blade gap, would be considered on the aggressive side, respectively. However, the nature of our design mitigates some of the effects of the unwanted aggression. This is why we chose a higher aggression blade gap. This allows more of the positive benefits of the aggressive blade gap while the unwanted byproducts are a bit tamed by the head design. This is one way the razor achieves good safety and high shaving performance simultaneously.

You can find the Henson AL13 Medium here.

The handle is .473” at the tail and tapers up to .394” near the head.
The length is 3.750” to the radius at the tail.
We chose the ASTRA SP blades because they had the most consistent internal cut-out, which shows off the precision of the tabs that hold the blade. Our blades are not proprietary, you are welcome to use any standard DE safety razor blade in our Henson razors.

Our customers have tested many other blades in the Henson including Feather blades. We plan on doing a test of several other DE blades and will include the results on our website. Until then we suggest using the ASTRA SP blades.
channels
We have created an exit path for hair to flow out after it’s cut. This allows for gentle long strokes, with no clogging or interference with the cutting action of the blade. Simply rinse the razor in water to quickly remove hair and shaving creams.
Best practice is to thoroughly rinse the razor under water after each shave. No need to fully disassemble after each shave. Be sure to store your Henson in a dry place; we don't suggest storing in the shower.

Replace the blade every 3-5 shaves and when you disassemble to do so we suggest a light cleaning. You can use a soft bristled toothbrush and water, soap or mild cleaning solution if you wish. Dry and place a new blade in.
We ship internationally.

The short list we are unable to ship to includes: Ascension Island, China, French Southern Territories, Heard & McDonald Islands, Italy (1 of 110 provinces), Morocco, New Zealand (1 of 17 regions), South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands, Tristan da Cunha.

If ordering internationally, consider taking a look at our international distributors list to save on international duties and fees. You can find this list HERE.
We don’t suggest throwing used blades directly in the garbage. Double edge blades are metal and fully recyclable; they can be disposed of at a blade bank.

You can purchase a blade bank specifically for razor blades or you can use a small jar, box, or other container. Your local pharmacy or drugstore may even supply you with a sharps container at no charge.

It can take years to fill up, at which point you can place it in your recycling or bring it to a metal/sharps recycling facility (depending on your local guidelines).
